Jonathan Stittle: Supermarket Slip

Jonathan Stittle (pictured), has just settled a case for a lady in her 20’s who was injured in her local supermarket. Spilled liquid on the floor hadn’t been cleaned up, causing her to slip and injure her knees,  ankle and hand.

Initially the supermarket denied liability, claiming both that they had a reasonable inspection system in place, and had no record of the accident.

However, our resourceful client was able to prove that she had reported the accident to the assistant manager of the store & had also been to her GP on the day of the accident.

Eventually, the supermarket’s insurers admitted liability, paving the way for our client to receive compensation of £2700.

The lesson to be learned from this case is that it is important to keep careful records of your discussions with organisations when you report injuries to them. A photo of the accident form or the person you speak to taken on your mobile phone will usually be enough.
