This week we settled a claim for a lady who suffered a nasty shoulder injury in a local bakery. The insurers of the opponent initially denied liability but after some persistence a formal admission was received. The insurer submitted an offer to settle at that point in the sum of £5,000.00. That was refused and the claim continued for a further 10 months after which we were finally able to negotiate a settlement of £18,000.00.
The message from this claim is clearly that insurers are always trying to under-settle claims and it is rarely wise to accept their first offer. Sometimes we obtain five, six or more offers before a claim is settled. It is always worthwhile instructing an experienced personal injury lawyer to ensure that you receive the appropriate amount of compensation.
