This Sunday is Mother’s Day. This is a plea to all separated couples to remember that, however badly their relationship with the mother or father of their child has broken down, it is important to remember them on Mother’s and Father’s Day. That person may have stopped being the love of your life. They may have said or done things to hurt you but they are still the other parent of your child.
So dads, if you would ordinarily have the children with you on Sunday why not pick up the phone or send a text or email asking mum if she would like to swap days and perhaps see the children for a few hours and politely suggest that should Father’s Day fall on a day you would not be seeing them, that she returns the favour. If for whatever reason that won’t work don’t forget to make sure that mum receives a Mother’s Day card. Don’t assume someone else will think of it. If, whatever your feelings for your ex might be, you believe that the children still love their mother then respect and acknowledge that relationship and make sure that she receives a card. If the children aren’t going to see their mother on Mother’s Day make sure that they give her a call or Skype her or something.
However difficult relations between separated parents might be it is amazing how much good will such a gesture can generate.
