It is that time of year again when the government announces the annual increase in statutory payment rates. The following increased rates will therefore apply from 6 April 2014.
- Statutory Sick Pay (“SSP”)
This will increase from £86.70 to £87.55 a week*.
- Statutory Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay
The flat rate will increase from £136.78 to £138.18 per week*.
*to qualify for these statutory payments, employees must earn at least the lower earnings limit. This will also increase to a threshold of £111.00 per week, again from 6 April 2014.
We also usually expect an increase in the maximum weekly payment (used for calculating redundancy) and the maximum compensatory award for tribunal claims to apply from 1 February but rumour has it that these amounts won’t increase until 6 April 2014. We will of course keep you updated with any announcements as and when they are made.
