In the decade we’ve been serving Dronfield, I’ve seen many clients who’ve had accidents somewhere you might consider safe, such as in a supermarket or simply walking down a pavement. Here are just a few incidents we have come across.
Playing golf
One place you wouldn’t expect to be at risk is on a golf course, but I know a local lady who would beg to differ.
Having pinged her first shot up the fairway, she left the raised tee via a set of steps, which collapsed beneath her, causing a nasty ankle fracture. She couldn’t work for two months and at the point she came to see me, she was having a stressful time trying to support her family.
Happily, we were able to secure an admission of liability quickly and an interim payment of damage, so she could avoid significant debt. I saw her at our Dronfield office recently and was delighted to discover her ankle is as good as new and her golf handicap is coming down fast!
Cycling on semi-rural lanes
Cyclists enjoy the semi-rural lanes and paths around here, but like everywhere, they are becoming increasingly congested.
I worked for a young man who was knocked off his bike by a hit and run driver on a blind bend. As well as a broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder, he was left with scarring down his body, where he had scraped along the tarmac.
Fortunately, a number of witnesses came forward and the driver was traced. Eventually, liability was admitted by the insurer and we were able to fund the rehabilitation our client needed to return to work as a plumber. After a course of psychological therapy, he also felt confident enough to get back on his bike.
On a farm
I settled another claim for a gentleman from Hundall, who worked on a nearby farm. He was injured when a pig escaped through a broken gate and knocked him to the ground, where he landed on a pallet, incurring a nasty head injury. He was left with memory loss and an unsightly scar.
The settlement we negotiated included a payment that allowed him to retrain as a mechanic. He decided during his rehabilitation, perhaps understandably, that agricultural work was no longer for him.
