Remember A Charity Week (7 to 13 September 2026) celebrates the power and impact of legacy giving and the lasting difference gifts in Wills can make.
Throughout the week, we’re shining a light on some of the charities making a real difference in our communities and beyond, including Sheffield Cat Shelter, and exploring the vital role gifts in Wills play in helping them continue their work for future generations.
A safe haven for Sheffield’s cats
For more than 100 years, Sheffield Cat Shelter has been rescuing and caring for cats across Sheffield and the surrounding areas. The charity provides cats in need with a safe, home like environment while they await adoption, as well as essential care including neutering, vaccinations and microchipping.
One legacy, 64 years of impact
When someone leaves a gift to The Sheffield Cats Shelter in their Will, their kindness can continue to make a difference for decades to come.
In fact, the charity’s current premises were made possible by a legacy left 64 years ago. For more than six decades, that generous gift has provided a safe place for countless cats to receive care, recover and find loving new homes.
Now, another chapter is beginning. Legacy gifts are helping Sheffield Cat Shelter move to bigger premises, giving the charity more space to care for cats, improve the environment in which they recover and provide better facilities for the staff and volunteers who dedicate themselves to their care.
Most importantly, the new home will help the charity support even more cats and their owners in the years ahead.
“We are so excited to be on the hunt for new premises! Improving the working conditions for our hard working team is top priority, including a proper staff kitchen and dining space separate from our cat facilities, plus inspiring offices where we can all finally be together under one roof. Onwards and upwards for our rescue team!”

From the team at Sheffield Cat Shelter
“A gift in a Will is such an amazing way to leave something positive for the future when you die. We are so lucky to be well supported across Sheffield and want to thank all our supporters, past, present and future.”
Stephen King, Fundraising Manager
“We are always so busy caring for cats and kittens who desperately need us, and we know how important it is to have more space, not just for the cats, but for the wonderful staff and volunteers who care for them every day.
I honestly feel quite emotional when I think about the people who choose to leave us a gift in their Will. It is such a generous and selfless thing to do, and it can make an incredible difference. Their kindness can help cats for many years to come, and that is something we will never take for granted.”
Rebecca Hollingworth, Cat Welfare Manager
Taylor Emmet’s Support
Taylor Emmet has supported the shelter with a legacy matter that is contributing towards its new premises. The legacy is the largest the charity has ever received, helping to ensure long term sustainability for the shelter.
Chloe Binstead, Senior Associate at Taylor Emmet, has worked closely with the charity throughout the process, providing professional and compassionate support.
Sheffield Cat Shelter has expressed its thanks to the firm, particularly recognising Chloe’s professionalism, kindness and invaluable support in helping the legacy create a lasting benefit for cats, staff and volunteers.
