A right to move consultation has been looming for some time and here it is.\u00a0 The policy aims to give social housing tenants the opportunity to move to a new area through the right to demand their housing is sold and an alternative is bought in an area of their choice. The demand to be re-housed has to be related to taking up a job or living closer to employment or training.\u00a0 However, it is estimated that only 46% of social housing renters of working age were in employment in 2012-13.\u00a0 This is compared to 87% of owner occupiers and 74% of private renters.\u00a0 How this policy will impact upon RSL\u2019s is an unknown at the moment.\u00a0 The consultation <\/a>proposes new statutory guidance requiring councils to set aside at least 1% of their stock for tenants who need to move because of work or training.<\/p>\n
