A new study carried out by the University of Warwick<\/a>\u00a0concludes \u201cThere is no evidence that family courts in England and Wales are discriminating against fathers because of gender bias<\/em>\u201d and \u201c\u2026that contact applications by fathers were in fact \u2018overwhelmingly successful<\/em>\u2019 ”<\/p>\n

If you read the\u00a0summary\u00a0on the above\u00a0link, it\u00a0contains lots of food for thought whichever parent you are, and which you may or may not agree with. Some of the main points that the study finds are:<\/p>\n

\u2013 mothers still tend to be the main carers after separation in these cases (is that so outside of court proceedings?)<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 adults in the cases focus more on their own rights rather than what is best for their children (was that your experience?)<\/p>\n

– \u00a0that most fathers do secure reasonable arrangements after a court application<\/p>\n

– and that the huge reduction in legal aid is really affecting parents being able to access the courts.<\/p>\n
