{"id":3652,"date":"2022-01-28T14:04:36","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T14:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tayloremmet.co.uk\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=3652"},"modified":"2022-01-28T14:04:36","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T14:04:36","slug":"cica-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tayloremmet.co.uk\/blogs\/cica-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"CICA Claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have received a physical or mental injury following an act of violence, you may be able to claim compensation via the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.<\/p>\n<p>The CICA is a government funded scheme designed to compensate victims of violent crime such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mental or physical injury;<\/li>\n<li>sexual or physical abuse;<\/li>\n<li>loss of earnings as a direct result of a criminal injury;<\/li>\n<li>special expenses payments if your injuries mean you have been unable to work or have been incapacitated to a similar extent for more than 28 weeks;<\/li>\n<li>fatalities including bereavement payments, payments for loss of parental services, financial dependency and funeral payments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Under the terms of the CICA Scheme all incidents have to be reported to the Police. If a crime has not been reported then the CICA cannot make any payment for compensation. It is important that any incident is reported to the Police as soon as possible as any delays could impact the decision of the CICA.<\/p>\n<p>The CICA also have a time limit for bringing claims as follows:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No later than 2 years after the incident if you are over 18<\/li>\n<li>No later than your 20<sup>th<\/sup> birthday if you are under 18<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No criminal charges or prosecution needs to be brought against a party for you to have a successful criminal injuries claim.
