However, the centres must listen to the women\u2019s experiences and use them to inform the learning process, so the best care can be offered going forward.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003a7a;\"><strong>Financial and non-pecuniary interests<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is suggested that the General Medical Council register should be expanded to include a list of payments made by manufacturers of mesh devices to hospitals and clinicians.<\/p>\n<p>If implemented, it is hoped this recommendation will foster a culture of transparency, ensuring patients are fully informed about why a particular procedure or product is being advocated.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003a7a;\"><strong>The future<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Many of the women we represent have been compensated for the harm done by pelvic mesh, but it is likely to be the tip of the iceberg, when compared to the number of operations carried out and participants in the review.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst Baroness Cumberlege\u2019s report cannot change the situation these women find themselves in, it is hoped the healthcare system and government listen and learn from the health scandals it highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>The system cannot be complacent, however, as there is a suggestion that mesh implants may be used in men diagnosed with prostate cancer. If this is the case, we fully support and acknowledge the importance of ongoing tests and investigations into patient safety.
