After snow forced organisers to postpone the Dronfield 10K in March, for the first time in it\u2019s history, this weekend, it\u2019s second time lucky for all you patient runners, who will now be facing predicted temperatures in excess of 24\u00b0C. With conditions set to be so warm, we thought we\u2019d offer a few last-minute tips for a safe and comfortable race on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #003a7a;\"><strong>Stay hydrated<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The most obvious, yet important, thing to remember this weekend is to keep yourself hydrated, before, during and after the race. The team behind the 10K has ensured plenty of water stations are in place. They will be located just after the start line (which you will more likely need on loops two and three), just after the Sainsbury\u2019s roundabout (again, you will pass this on loop two and three) and of course, they will be available at the finish line.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #003a7a;\"><strong>Clothing<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Make sure you wear something before and during the race that is suitable for the heat. On a hot day, loose fitting, light-coloured garments are best to keep you cool. A spare set of clothes to change into at the finish will also help you feel a little fresher.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #003a7a;\"><strong>Sun cream <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Whether you are running or spectating, be sure to apply plenty of sun cream. Runners in particular need to reapply after the race. You may not be aware of the strength of the sun as you cross the line with everything else going on, but after sweating so much, you are at risk of burning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #003a7a;\"><strong>Pace yourself<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">As tempting as it may be to try and chase down a PB, especially after an extra couple of months\u2019 training, it is advisable to slow your pace to adjust for the heat. Rather than running at a set rate and trying to maintain it, monitor your levels of exertion and try to stay comfortable the whole way around.
