Taylor&Emmet shows suport for historic chase
A longstanding firm of Sheffield solicitors, Taylor&Emmet LLP, is showing its continued support for another city institution.
Taylor&Emmet has lent its name to the Hallam Chase – the oldest amateur fell race in the UK – sponsoring the event for a fourth year running. Taylor&Emmet’s employees demonstrated their culinary skills at the firm’s bake sale, donating home-made cakes and buns, which were sold during a dress down day to raise £140.87 for Weston Park. The hospital is one of only three in the country dedicated to the treatment of cancer, providing services for patients across the region. The three and a quarter mile handicap chase can be traced back to 1862 and is widely regarded as one of the hardest courses in the area. It takes competitors from Sandygate to Stannington Church and back, via steep up and downhill climbs either way. A total of 63 participants competed in this year’s race, which was won by Jeremy Mirrams of the Hallamshire Harriers and Pat Goodall of Totley Athletics Club. The prizes for fastest man and woman were awarded to Rob Little of the Dark Peak Fell Runners, who finished in a time of 22.02 minutes and Pippa Wilkie of Hallamshire Harriers, who recorded a time of 27.08 minutes. Taylor&Emmet partner and keen fell runner, Chaanah Patton, said: “The gruelling Hallam Chase has legendary status among Sheffield’s amateur athletics clubs. Taylor&Emmet is very proud of its local roots and we are really pleased that our sponsorship of this event is helping to keep it alive, enabling runners from around the region to continue to compete in a significant part of the city’s history.”
