TAYLOR&EMMET COLLABORATES FOR FRIENDLY DIVORCE
A leading family law specialist at Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet Solicitors is backing a national drive to raise awareness of collaborative law among divorcing couples.
Taylor&Emmet’s Michaela Heathcote, one of the few collaborative lawyers in South Yorkshire, is adding her support to a scheme that will raise the profile of the practice.
The initiative, launched in London last month, marks the fifth anniversary of the introduction of collaborative law in this country. Mr Justice Coleridge is spearheading the campaign, which aims to spread the word about this problem-solving approach to the legal system that helps couples reach a divorce settlement without going to court.
Michaela Heathcote, said: “Despite legal professionals and existing clients acknowledging that a collaborative approach to divorce is, in most cases, the best course of action, we are yet to spread the word widely enough. Hopefully with the support of a national campaign, regional practitioners like me will be able to raise its profile and demonstrate the advantages of collaborative practice.”
Taylor&Emmet is committed to helping its clients reach amicable divorce settlements and all of the fee-earners in its family department are members of Resolution, a government backed scheme promoting non-confrontational legal practice. Three of the firm’s senior family solicitors are also Resolution accredited specialists.
Michaela Heathcote is currently the firm’s only collaborative lawyer. She is also treasurer of South Yorkshire Resolution and a member of Resolution’s national specialist accreditation committee.
